ranger build suggestions ?
Hey,
I'm new to gw, started playing a ranger. I'm at lvl 6 now, so far spent equal points in beast mastery and markmanship. Mesmer is my secondary profession. Could someone give me any build suggestions, also pls let me know how to spend skill points effectively. Thanks |

i wouldnt recommend beast mastery in pve, i dont see it used much
I suggest you focus expertise as it's the primary attribute, then dish points into marks/ws to suit the build your running |

Scroll down to the Campfire forum. In there is a sub forum for each class, farming, heroes, etc. Ask in the Ranger subforum of the Campfire.

I would recommend to put some points on Expertise as well, as this will reduce the cost of your ranger and touch skills.
Also, check out pvxwiki for some build sugestion. And welcome to GuildWars. |

Keep in mind, when you're in any town, you can re-spec your attributes, increasing and lowering whatever you feel is necessary =)

Dont worry too much about your build at the moment... Just play the game for a while.

Just play the game with the skills you have for the moment, and when you get to a skill trainer, you can see if there is a skill that seems to be good. Or ask other rangers in game if you can see their build, most people will let you, giving you an idea too.
As mentioned is PvX good too, but most prefarable is a build you've done yourself, as you'll know how to handle it. There is in gwwiki a guide to make a build, it might be of some use, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_making_a_build. A few very common skills used by rangers are: distracting shot, apply poision and natural stride. A res of some sort is almost always expected of you to carry, unless your a PvP monk or have some other very good reason. Another way, is to check gwwiki (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ranger) and make up a "dream build" and then work to get it. A fairly fast and easy way to do this is to make a PvP Ranger or Elementalist character, and do the zaishen challange until you've unlocked the zaishen elite and the skills needed to play it successfully. As a ranger you'll be trapper in the zelite, and nuker if you go ele. You unlock the skills you want with a priest of balthazar, when you've got your skills so you can play zelite, you start doing that until you can unlock all skills in your "dream build", exept the elite, which must be captured by your PvE character, remember that PvP only characters can use unlocked skills, even the elites. As a trapper, you use trapps (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Trap), together with some utility skills. As a nuker you'll want to do big-damage AoE skills, found in the fire magic line (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fire_magic), such as Meteor shower and savanna heat. Those skills you've unlocked can you now buy from every skill trainer in the corresponding campaign, which makes it easy for you to get all common skills in your "dream build". Oh, nearly forgot... Welcome to the game! |

@Ogion - MagmaRed's advice is good for you also. Each of the profession subforums in Campfire section have a stickied Basics thread. Many of them include "single campaign" builds for new players.
